Meet the staff in Reception

Mrs. Kelly: Pluto Class Teacher

Mrs. Azad: Minnie Class Teacher

Miss. Hussain: Teaching Assistant

Mr. Greenfield: Teaching Assistant

Mrs. Paul: SEN Teaching Assistant

In Reception we are encouraged to explore, create, be curious, messy and have fun. Through all of this, we learn!

All of our learning is focused on the 'Characteristics of Effective Learning'; Playing and Exploring, Active Learning and Creating and Thinking Critically. Our classrooms and outdoor area are set up to enhance your child's learning and development of skills in these areas. We promote the characteristics through our Achievosaur initiative in our key worker groups.  This year we are also an Early Adopter of the new Early Years Framework.

Projects

In Reception your child tells us what they love and we teach them all about it! We also base our projects on the experiences and skills that we know the children need to learn about from our regular assessments.  We like to ensure your child loves to learn and the way to do that is to learn about what they love. We use our knowledge of the children and observations of their learning to create lots of exciting and practical learning opportunities around their ideas and Characteristics of Effective Learning.

Autumn  B

Our Big Question...

How do people celebrate?

During Autumn B in Reception we will be learning all about different celebrations.

In Literacy we will be reading 'Kipper's Birthday by Mick Inkman' and 'You Choose Christams' by Nick Sharrat & Pippa Goodhart. Your child will listen carefully to stories, act them out the stories and use actions to retell them. They will also think of adjectives to describe the characters.

In Maths we will be counting, comparing sets and matching numeral to quantity within 10. We will also explore the 'part - whole' model.

In our Project lessons we will be reading

Rama and Sita: The Story of Diwali by Malachy Doyle and What's in the Witch's Kitchen? by Nick Sharratt' and  We will enjoy learning about different celebrations from around the world. We will think about what clothes we need to wear in winter and will enjoy a winter walk. We will also create a bubbling couldron as part of a science experiment!

In Phonics this term we will continue to learn our Phase 2 sounds and practise our blending skills. We will also begin to write phrases and short sentences.

Please ensure you read with your child everyday in order to support their reading, comprehension and phonics skills.
