In Reception we are encouraged to explore, create, be curious, messy and have fun. Through all of this, we learn!
All of our learning is focused on the 'Characteristics of Effective Learning'; Playing and Exploring, Active Learning and Creating and Thinking Critically. Our classrooms and outdoor area are set up to enhance your child's learning and development of skills in these areas. We promote the characteristics through our Achievosaur initiative in our key worker groups. This year we are also an Early Adopter of the new Early Years Framework.

In Reception, we start by finding out what your child enjoys and use this to shape their learning. We also plan our projects around the key experiences and skills children need, based on our ongoing assessments.
Our aim is to nurture a love of learning by building on each child’s interests. By getting to know the children well and observing how they learn, we create engaging, hands-on opportunities that reflect their ideas and support the Characteristics of Effective Learning.
Summer B
Our Big Question...
Where are we going and how can we get there?
In Literacy this term, we will be exploring travel and transport using the song 'We All Go Travelling By' as our inspiration. First, we will learn the song using actions and movement to help us remember the words. We will sequence the events of the song and use key words to describe each event. We will then use adjectives to describe a vehicle, create a class story map and finally, choose and describe our own vehicle to add to the song.
In Maths this term, we will be exploring sharing and grouping through practical, hands-on activities. We will learn how to share objects equally between groups and begin to understand the difference between odd and even numbers. We will also be practising doubles using games, songs, and everyday objects to help build confidence with early number skills. Following this, we will investigate patterns by creating and continuing repeating patterns using colours and shapes. We will also explore position and direction by using language such as forwards, backwards, next to, behind, and under. We will use lots of practical activities to help develop children's problem-solving, reasoning, and mathematical vocabulary in a fun and engaging way.
This term in Project, we will be exploring transport. We will learn about a range of vehicles and different methods of transportation. We will also compare how vehicles have changed over time by looking at those used in the past and those used today.
In Phonics this term we will continue on our Phase 4 lesson will be introducing more tricky words. We will also continue to write phrases and short sentences.
Please ensure you read with your child everyday in order to support their reading, comprehension and phonics skills.

Please also ensure your child has appropriate sports shoes with Velcro fastenings in their PE kit to change into. Please can all uniform and PE kit be labelled with your child's name.
Reading Books
Your child's reading books will be changed every Friday. Please can you read with your child at home for 10 minutes every night and sign their reading record. This Reading Record needs to be brought into school every day in order to move up the troll tree.
