Meet the staff in Reception

Mrs. Royle: Minnie Class Teacher

Mrs. Azad: Teacher Trainee

Miss. Hussain: Teaching Assistant

Mr. Greenfield: Teaching Assistant

Mrs. Paul: SEN Teaching Assistant

In Reception we are encouraged to explore, create, be curious, messy and have fun. Through all of this, we learn!

All of our learning is focused on the 'Characteristics of Effective Learning'; Playing and Exploring, Active Learning and Creating and Thinking Critically. Our classrooms and outdoor area are set up to enhance your child's learning and development of skills in these areas. We promote the characteristics through our Achievosaur initiative in our key worker groups.  This year we are also an Early Adopter of the new Early Years Framework.

Projects

In Reception your child tells us what they love and we teach them all about it! We also base our projects on the experiences and skills that we know the children need to learn about from our regular assessments.  We like to ensure your child loves to learn and the way to do that is to learn about what they love. We use our knowledge of the children and observations of their learning to create lots of exciting and practical learning opportunities around their ideas and Characteristics of Effective Learning.

Our Big Question...

What is marvellous about me?

In our first term in Reception we will be learning all about ourselves. In Literacy we will be reading 'Owl Babies by Martin Waddell' and 'The Colour Monster by Anna Lenas'. Your child will act out the stories and use actions to retell them.

In Maths we will be grouping, sorting, and comparing objects. We will be focusing on the numbers, 1, 2 and 3.

In Project we will be reading the text 'Only One You by Linda Kranz. We will celebrate what makes us unique, learn about our families, special people in our lives and explore our senses through sensory walks. We will name body parts and their uses, learn about the seasons and experiment with materials to build a nest for the owl babies.

In Phonics this term we will begin learning our Phase 2 sounds and practise our reading skills.

Please ensure you read with your child everyday in order to support their reading, comprehension and phonics skills.

Please keep up to date with everything that is happening in Reception on this page and on Class Dojo. The team share lots of messages, reminders and updates on Class Dojo as well as extended learning activities. If you need to speak to one of the members of staff, please make an appointment at the school office.

PE Kits

Our PE session is on a Monday. Please come to school wearing your PE kit on this day. This should include black jogging bottoms, shorts or leggings, a white polo top or t-shirt and a black jacket for outdoor PE sessions. Please also ensure your child has appropriate sports shoes with Velcro fastenings in their PE kit to change into. Please can all uniform and PE kit be labelled with your child's name.

Reading Books

Your child's reading books will be changed every Friday. Please can you read with your child at home for 10 minutes every night and sign their reading record. This Reading Record needs to be brought into school every day in order to move up the troll tree. If you make it to the top of the troll tree by reading every day you will be entered into the prize draw to win a brand new book in our celebration assembly.

Please respect our school books.
