In Reception we are encouraged to explore, create, be curious, messy and have fun. Through all of this, we learn!
All of our learning is focused on the 'Characteristics of Effective Learning'; Playing and Exploring, Active Learning and Creating and Thinking Critically. Our classrooms and outdoor area are set up to enhance your child's learning and development of skills in these areas. We promote the characteristics through our Achievosaur initiative in our key worker groups. This year we are also an Early Adopter of the new Early Years Framework.

Projects
In Reception your child tells us what they love and we teach them all about it! We also base our projects on the experiences and skills that we know the children need to learn about from our regular assessments. We like to ensure your child loves to learn and the way to do that is to learn about what they love. We use our knowledge of the children and observations of their learning to create lots of exciting and practical learning opportunities around their ideas and Characteristics of Effective Learning.
Spring A
Our Big Question...
What is your favourite traditional tale and why?
During Spring A in Reception we will be learning all 'Traditional Tales.'
In Literacy we will be reading 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears', 'The Gingerbread Man' and 'The Three Little Pigs'. Your child will listen carefully to stories, act them out and use actions to retell them. They will continue to think of adjectives to describe the characters and settings and will focus on writing simple sentences, using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
In Maths we will begin exploring, capacity, height and length and we will be adding, subtarcting and finding one more and one less. We will also explore number bonds within ten.
In our Project lessons we will think about what clothes we need to wear in spring and will enjoy exploring seasonal changes. We will also create a house for the three little pigs, as part of a science experiment!
In Phonics this term we will learn our Phase 3 sounds and continue to practise our blending skills. We will also continue to write phrases and short sentences.
Please ensure you read with your child everyday in order to support their reading, comprehension and phonics skills.

PE Kits
Our PE session is on a Monday. Please come to school wearing your PE kit on this day. This should include black jogging bottoms, shorts or leggings, a white polo top or t-shirt and a black jacket for outdoor PE sessions. Please also ensure your child has appropriate sports shoes with Velcro fastenings in their PE kit to change into. Please can all uniform and PE kit be labelled with your child's name.
Reading Books
Your child's reading books will be changed every Friday. Please can you read with your child at home for 10 minutes every night and sign their reading record. This Reading Record needs to be brought into school every day in order to move up the troll tree. If you make it to the top of the troll tree by reading every day you will be entered into the prize draw to win a brand new book in our celebration assembly.
Please respect our school books.
