Autumn B - What makes North America a great place to visit?
In English - This term we will be learning about the novel ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes. Children will be able to write an innovated story or a story with a change of viewpoint which includes: effective use of adverbs; conjunctions to create complex sentences with adverb starters; paragraphs; an opening paragraph which combines character/s and setting.
Additionally in Autumn B – Children will write a non-chronological report based on the text ‘The cloud tea monkeys’ by Mal Peet. In this unit Children will be able to; read and identify key facts, gather information from a range of sources, ask and answer questions, exchange information with others. In terms of gathering content, children will be able to; gather information from a variety of sources and identify where information should be placed within a non-chronological structure. Children will be able to; construct their own non-chronological report which includes: subordination using because and so; different forms of sentence – statements, questions and exclamations.
In Maths-This term we will finish the addition and subtraction unit, reinforcing those key skills before progressing to focus on multiplication and division skills primarily. Children will specifically be looking at the 3, 4 and 8 times tables
In Geography - We will be learning all about North America: We will learn: How to locate North America on a map; Identifying the countries of North America; Exploring the Rocky Mountains range; The effects of the Mt St Helen’s eruption; Comparing the landscapes of US states; Comparing New York with where we live.
In Science- we will be looking at forces and magnets and how these affect our everyday lives.
In RE - Our big question is- Why the Bible is important for Christians today?
In Music - We will learn to sing and play instruments to ‘Three Little Birds’ by Bob Marley
In Computing - We will learn how to use Microsoft Word and stay safe on the internet
In PE – We will learn how to plat tag football for outdoor PE. For indoor PE we will do gymnastics.
MFL- In Spanish where we will learn how to say the different numbers and colours.
Art - In Art we will learn about Picasso and learn about his style of artwork and learn skills and techniques to help you create artwork in his style.
Homework
Children are expected to practise reading their reading book for ten minutes every day. A parent or carer will need to sign their reading record once they have listened to their child read. Children will be given weekly spellings each Friday and they will need to learn these spellings for their spelling test which will take place the following Friday. Children will also be given Maths tasks to complete and be expected to practice timetables on TT Rock Stars daily. Your child may also receive handwriting and additional maths homework.
PE Kits.
Children have PE once a week for 2 hours. This will incorporate an indoor PE session and then an outdoor session.
Both classes can come into school on Thursday in correct PE kit. This is plain black joggers/leggings, a plain white T-shirt and a plain black hoodie/jacket as well as plain black trainers. Shoes MUST NOT be worn for indoor PE due to safety reasons.
