Autumn A - Would you rather live in the Stone age or the Iron age?
In English - This term we will be learning about Diary writing and recounts. We will be studying the text: Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitarura. In terms of reading, children will be able to identify key points of a diary using who, what, where, when, why and how, using evidence from the text. Children will be able to participate in a group presentation, reporting accurate details, they will be able to identify thoughts and feelings and respond in role expressing thoughts and feelings. Children will develop their skills in gathering content by identifying the correct use of determiners a/an and use in writing, identify content for a diary, explore new vocabulary through drama, develop thoughts and feelings for use in writing and organise content for a Diary. Children will be able to write their own diary entries by the end of this unit.
Additionally, in Autumn A, we will complete our poetry unit with the focus on 'Dinosaur poems' by John Foster. Children will explore the different features of poems and even write their own.
In Maths-This term we will be focusing on revisiting and reinforcing knowledge on place value and number bonds working up to 1000. Additionally, we will be building on addition and subtraction skills starting across a 10 and progressing to across a 100.
In History - This term we will be learning about How Britain change from the Stone Age to the Iron age. Children will gain an overview of the major changes from the Stone age to the Iron Age, They will consider how we know about a historical period without written sources. They will research what it might have been like to live in Britain during this period.
In Science- We will learn about rocks, soil and fossils linking to our history topic of The Stone Age. We will be looking at the different kinds of rock which exist and which are best for certain purposes before moving on to soil and what it is made up of. We will specifically work on learning about Mary Anning as a case study to help us begin our study of fossils.
In RE - Our big question is- What is it like for someone to follow God?
In Music - We will learn to sing and play the Glockenspiel to the song Let Your Spirit Fly.
In Computing - We will learn how to use Microsoft Word and stay safe on the internet
In PE – We will learn how to plat tag rugby for outdoor PE. For indoor PE we will develop our fundamentals.
MFL- We will start our first topic in Spanish where we will learn how to say the different numbers and colours.
DT- In DT we will make Stone Age Soup.
Homework
Children are expected to practise reading their reading book for ten minutes every day. A parent or carer will need to sign their reading record once they have listened to their child read. Children will be given weekly spellings each Friday and they will need to learn these spellings for their spelling test which will take place the following Friday. Children will also be given Maths tasks to complete and be expected to practice timetables on TT Rock Stars daily.
PE Kits.
Children have PE once a week for 2 hours. This will incorporate an indoor PE session and then an outdoor session.
Both classes can come into school on Thursday in correct PE kit. This is plain black joggers/leggings, a plain white T-shirt and a plain black hoodie/jacket as well as plain black trainers. Shoes MUST NOT be worn for indoor PE due to safety reasons.
