Spring A - What was it like to walk in an Ancient Egyptian's shoes?
In English - This half term we will be looking at a narrative folk tale, 'Egyptian Cinderella' by Shirley Climo. We will discuss and sequence events, raise and answer questions linked to characters, identify and use prepositions, identify themes and conventions, identify the key features of a folk tale. We will develop ideas for a new folktale and plot these within a story planner. Finally, we will write a folk tale with a series of events, which includes features and focus skills.
Additionally in Spring A – Children will focus on reading and writing non-chronological reports. In this unit Children will be able to; read and identify key facts, gather information from a range of sources, ask and answer questions, exchange information with others. In terms of gathering content, children will be able to; gather information from a variety of sources and identify where information should be placed within a non-chronological structure. Children will be able to; construct their own non-chronological report which includes: subordination using because and so; different forms of sentence – statements, questions and exclamations.
In Maths - We will be working on our unit Multiplication and Division B. We will start by multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number - with no exchange before moving onto exchanging. Then we will begin delving into division. Firstly dividing a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number with no exchange, then flexible-partitioning and finally division with remainders. We will wrap up this unit by looking at scaling and thinking about how many ways we can multiply and divide numbers.
In History - Ancient Egyptians will be taught for the whole of the Spring Term. We will begin by thinking about the question 'Who were the Ancient Egyptians?' and will learn when and where they lived. We will find out who the pharaohs were and why the pyramids were built. This will include finding out about mummification. We will use different sources of information to support our learning.
In Science - Our focus is 'Animals including Humans'. We will learn that animals need to eat to get the nutrients they need to stay healthy. We will find out about a range of different food groups and the idea of a balanced diet. We will learn that humans and some animals have skeletons and muscles.
In RE - Our focus question is 'How do festivals and worship show what matters to a Muslim?'

Art - We will have an art day where we use Modrock to create our very own Egyptian masks. We will decorate the masks with paint in traditional Egyptian 'death mask' style.
Homework
Children are expected to practise reading their reading book for ten minutes every day. A parent or carer will need to sign their reading record once they have listened to their child read. Children will be given weekly spellings each Friday and they will need to learn these spellings for their spelling test which will take place the following Friday. Children will also be given Maths tasks to complete and be expected to practice timetables on TT Rock Stars daily. Your child may also receive handwriting and additional maths homework.
