Spring B - What was it like to walk in an Ancient Egyptian's shoes?

In English - This half term the children will will be finishing their non-chronological reports started in Spring A. Children will be able to; construct their own non-chronological report which includes:  subordination using because and so; different forms of sentence – statements, questions and exclamations. 

Next, it will be book week where children will complete work around the book 'Here we are' by Oliver Jeffers.

For the last three weeks of Spring B children will delve into the genre of mystery through the chosen text of 'The great Paper Caper' by Oliver Jeffers. In this unit children will develop their reading outcomes by learning how to ptedict based on details, raise and answer questions about characters and analyse the plot stucture of mystery. Children will develop their gathering content skills through story planning and using inverted commas to puctuate direct speech. Planning and writing skills will be stregnthened through the opportuniuty for children to write a mystery with an opening, build-up, problem, resolution and ending.

 

In Maths - 

This term in maths for the first two weeks, we will carry on with our topic of length and perimeter. Then we will move on to our unit of fractions. We will begin by exploring unit fractions before moving on to understanding the whole. Next, we will be moving on to comparing and ordering fractions. Additionally, we will count in fractions and by the end we will explore and understand equivalent fractions.

 

In the second half of this term, we will move on to our unit of mass and capacity. This topic will teach us about how to measure different amounts including the use of scales. We will also look at measuring mass in grams and kilograms before working on understanding volume and how to calculate it.

 

 In History - Ancient Egyptians will be taught for the whole of the Spring Term. We will begin by thinking about the question 'Who were the Ancient Egyptians?' and will learn when and where they lived. We will find out who the pharaohs were and why the pyramids were built. This will include finding out about mummification. We will use different sources of information to support our learning.

 

In Science - Our focus is 'Light. We will learn about light and dark, how we see, investigate whether light can travel through all objects, before finally learning about shadows.

 

In RE - Our focus areas will be on Easter and Eid.

 

In Music - We will learn, practice and perfom spring themed songs for our spring concert.

 

In Computing - We will learn how to use Google Documents to create an Ancient Egyptian themed poster.

  

In PE - For indoor PE we will be learning a variety of Latin dance styles such as the Cha cha and the Mambo. We will learn how to perform a range of simple moves, working individually and with a partner.

 

MFL- In Spanish we will learn the names of different fruits.

 

In DT - Children will learn how to sew an Egyptian Heiroglphic design onto binca.

 

In PSHE - We will learn about keeping ourselves fit and healthy.

 

Homework

Children are expected to practise reading their reading book for ten minutes every day. A parent or carer will need to sign their reading record once they have listened to their child read. Children will be given weekly spellings each Friday and they will need to learn these spellings for their spelling test which will take place the following Friday. Children will also be given Maths tasks to complete and be expected to practice timetables on TT Rock Stars daily. Your child may also receive handwriting and additional maths homework.

 

PE Kits.

Children have PE once a week for 2 hours.  This will incorporate an indoor PE session and then an outdoor session. 

Both classes can come into school on Thursday in correct PE kit. This is plain black joggers/leggings, a plain white T-shirt and a plain black hoodie/jacket as well as plain black trainers. Shoes MUST NOT be worn for indoor PE due to safety reasons.
